some popular verses of Ghalib -2

                                           कहते हो न देंगे हम दिल अगर पड़ा पाया

दिल कहाँ कि गुम कीजे हम ने मुद्दआ  पाया

1) you say, 'we won't give back the heart, if we find it lying [around]' 

2a) do we even have the heart, that it would be lost?! --we found out your object!
2b) where is the heart, that it would be lost? --we attained/'found' our object!

इश्क़ से तबीअत ने ज़ीस्त का मज़ा पाया
दर्द की दवा पाई दर्द-ए बे-दवा पाया

1) through passion, the temperament found the relish of life
2) it found a cure for pain, it found a pain without cure

दोस्त-दार-ए दुशमन है एतमाद-ए दिल मालूम
आह बे-असर देखी नाला ना-रसा पाया

1) it's an ally/friend of the enemy-- the trustworthiness of the heart [is] 'known' [to be nonexistent]!

2) I saw sighing [to be] ineffective, I found lamentation vain

सादगी‐ओ‐पुरकारी बे-ख़ुदी‐ओ‐हुश्यारी
हुस्न को तग़ाफ़ुल में जुरअत-आज़मा पाया

1) artlessness and skilfulness, self-lessness and awareness 
2) I found beauty, in negligence/heedlessness, [to be] courage-testing

ग़ुंचा फिर लगा खिलने आज हम ने अपना दिल
ख़ूँ किया हुआ देखा गुम किया हुआ पाया

1) the bud again/then began to bloom; today our heart we
2) saw [having been] turned to blood, found [having been] lost

हाल-ए दिल नहीं मालूम लेकिन इस क़दर यानी
हम ने बार‐हा ढूंढा तुम ने बार‐हा पाया

1) the state of the heart is not known-- however/except to this extent, that is,
2) many times we sought it, many times you found it

शोर-ए पंद-ए नासिह ने ज़ख़्म पर नमक छिड़का
आप से कोई पूछे तुम ने क्या मज़ा पाया

1a) the outcry/uproar of the counsel of the Advisor sprinkled salt on the wound
1b) the bitter/sharp/brackish counsel of the Advisor sprinkled salt on the wound 

2a) let someone ask him, What relish did you find [in tormenting me]?
2b) let someone ask him, What relish did you find [while I found so much]?
